Abstract

Analyzing Passenger flows can also assist urban planners in better understanding how to distribute services and infrastructure in a way that meets the needs of various populations. This research aims to analyze the settlement system of Iran using a network-based approach and to examine air flows between cities with active airports (from 2011 to 2021), which can contribute to a better understanding of spatial patterns and urban interactions. This study, based on the positivist paradigm, employs a quantitative research method that is descriptive and analytical in nature. The results indicate that Tehran, as the central hub, plays a dominant role in the urban network, which can have significant impacts on the distribution of services and infrastructure in other cities. The existence of secondary hubs within this settlement system indicates the formation of a polycentric pattern that can contribute to a more balanced development of different regions. These hubs may act as strengths within the settlement system, helping to attract population and new investments. This research can serve as a foundation for future policy making in urban and regional development and can enhance the quality of life in cities. Ultimately, focusing on the analysis of flow data and utilizing advanced modeling tools can enrich studies of the settlement system in Iran and lead to the development of more effective solutions in urban and regional management.
